How To Write Your Senior Yearbook Caption

What Is A Senior Caption?

A senior caption is a quote that you choose for your final yearbook photo. This will be your final parting remark to your school and all of the students and faculty that will be getting a copy of the book. It is intended to be a summary of your high school experience. I know what you may be thinking, how the heck am I supposed to sum up 4 years of experiences into a few short sentences that are small enough to fit under my yearbook picture? That’s all part of the challenge! And a challenge it certainly is. There are many ways you can go about it, so let’s get into it!

How To Write A Senior Caption

A senior caption is meant to be a summary of your high school experience. I understand that shortening the last 4 years into a few measly sentences is no small task, but it is absolutely doable! To get started, you need to decide on what kind of quote you are going for. Are you wanting something deep? Or something funny? Perhaps you’d like to use a famous quote instead of your own words. Once you’ve got an idea of what kind of caption you’re going to be doing, the fun begins.

First Step: Brainstorm. Reflect on your time at high school. Some questions to consider are:

What was your biggest takeaway?

What was most important to you during this time?

What was the biggest thing you’ve learned?

How has your experience affected you?

How would you describe your high school experience?

After you’ve answered these, you’ll have a good idea of what your high school experience was like. You can use the themes you discover here going forward.

Second Step: Getting inspired. You can do this by reading the examples of possible senior captions below. Reading senior captions of the past is a wonderful way to get inspiration for the one in your present. There are loads you can find on the internet, but the list below has the cream of the crop, if you will. You can either skip the last step and use one of these, or you can use them as the basis of your own unique quote. The choice is up to you, check them out.

Last Step: Writing. The only thing left for you to do is to get writing. This is the step of trial and error. Write, re-write, and revise until you have the senior quote that perfectly displays who you are. You got this!
